The definition of hypnosis in the journal Psychology Today says, “Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic practice that uses guided hypnosis to help a client reach a trance-like state of focus, concentration, diminished peripheral awareness and heightened suggestibility.

Hypnosis taps into your subconscious mind, so you can work deeper than a conscious level. Your subconscious mind is really running the show.

It’s like how an airplane runs. The crew that you see, the flight attendants/cabin crew are like your conscious mind. You, as the passenger, interact with them mainly as they are more accessible. The pilot would be your subconscious mind. You don’t really see the pilot, it’s difficult to regularly interact with the pilot, but you know the pilot is there because someone is flying the plane.

It’s not impossible to talk to the pilot, but you do have to put some effort in.

That’s how the mind works. You mainly interact with your conscious mind. The subconscious is there holding onto all your trauma and influencing the way you do things – The way you react and behave.

Hypnosis is a way to interact with your subconscious mind and start to work through the things it’s holding on to.


What hypnosis is not:

  • It’s not stage hypnosis – No one is going to make you cluck like a chicken.
  • It won’t let you adapt anything that is not for your greater good – Your subconscious is smarter than that.
  • It’s not magic or anything super woo – It’s 100% based in science.

Here’s how it works:

  • It’s’ simply progressive relaxation and positive affirmations.
  • You access the Theta brainwave state AKA the hypnosis state.
  • You unlock your subconscious mind in this state.
  • It doesn’t know the difference between real and imagined.
  • When you tell it something, it assumes it’s already true and real.
  • It loves repetition, so the more often you tell it what you want it to believe, the quicker you start embodying those beliefs.

Basically, hypnosis is a tool that gets you where you want, faster.
